A total of 600 participants, together with their travelling companions (bringing the number up to almost 1,500 people) are taking part in the 11th Costa Brava Dance Festival, which is being held in Lloret de Mar Municipal Theatre this Easter.
The organiser is an Italian company that has chosen Lloret de Mar to stage this event since 2003.
22 groups are taking part this year from Denmark, Austria, Cyprus, Russia, Greece, the USA, India, Singapore, Brazil, Belgium, the UK, Israel, Albania and Italy.
The festival lasts 4 days and participants compete in the categories of classical, modern and contemporary dance, hip hop, musical theatre, folk, ethnic dance and jazz. The finals and awards ceremonies of the competition are held on 30th and 31st March.
The opening of Teatre de Lloret was welcomed enthusiastically by the organisers of this festival, who in previous years had held the final gala event in facilities of nearby towns. The town council is receiving a growing number of requests for information from international agencies and organisers that wish to add Lloret Municipal Theatre to the other public venues of the town in which they already stage events. 47 private music and dance festivals have been scheduled in the town for 2013.
